What are Sofía Vergara’s demands in Joe Manganiello divorce?

On 17 July, it was confirmed that Hollywood actors Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello are to end their seven-year marriage. The pair announced their separation in a statement released to Page Six.

“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” Vergara and Manganiello said. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

Three days later, the news came that Manganiello had officially filed for divorce, pointing to “irreconcilable differences”. According to court documents seen by several media outlets, the Magic Mike actor listed the couple’s date of separation as 2 July.

Vergara responds to Manganiello divorce petition

Now, PEOPLE magazine has exclusively revealed, Vergara has responded to Manganiello’s divorce petition with a filing that asks the court to uphold the pair’s prenuptial agreement, and also cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.

Per documents viewed by PEOPLE, the 51-year-old Modern Family star is seeking to keep hold of earnings and assets she accrued both before and during the marriage. Assets she asked to be listed as hers include jewellery, art works and “other personal effects”.

Vergara-Manganiello divorce should be “simpler case”

Legal experts expect the process of finalising the divorce to be straightforward. “She keeps what she has and what she earns, and he keeps what he has and what he’s earned,” divorce attorney Frederic J Siegel told Page Six. “So with a prenup - and without kids - it becomes a much simpler case.”

While Vergara has a 31-year-old son by former husband Joe González, she and Manganiello do not have children together.
