What did Roseanne Barr say about the Holocaust and Jewish people?

Roseanne Barr, actress, comedian, writer and producer, is famous across the United States and far, far beyond as the star of the TV sitcom in her own name and for her dry, very dry, sense of humour. That said, in recent years she’s been getting some people’s backs up with some rather controversial comments.

Roseanne’s antisemitic rant questioned

The Emmy and Golden Globe winner had the reboot of her show Roseanne axed after she compared Valerie Jarrett, former advisor to Barack Obama, to an ape. “Abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values,” was the messsage from ABC’s entertainment president.

Well, given that she tends to get many an opportunity to speak out, the latest comments have really caused a backlash, as she says that nobody died in the Holocaust... but six million Jews should die now, because they cause the world’s problems.

But the danger with video clips, some defenders of her argue, is that sometimes the nuance of the discussion is missed. Was she being sarcastic? Was there a strong pro-Jewish message behind what she was saying? Was she attempting to ward off more crazy conspiracy theories?

Here one supporter makes that point.

The problem was, as others have opined, that although her antisemitic rant did indeed appear to be sarcastic, in her famous dry tone, she was playing that card to highlight another conspiracy, that the last presidential election was rigged. A theory that, despite numerous attempts to prove, has completely fallen apart.
