As if it were a matter of divine justice, ever since Shakira ended her relationship with Gerard Piqué, life has continued to smile upon her in other aspects, particularly in her professional career. She has been accumulating accolades worldwide, achieving musical successes, and entering into new advertising collaborations. It’s almost as if life has decided to offer her a mix of good and bad.

In Barranquilla, they are already completing a statue in her honor, and now Spotify has announced that it will pay tribute to the Colombian artist. They have declared the 29th of September, which marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the release of her album “Dónde están los ladrones,” as ‘El Día de Shakira’ or ‘Shakira Day’.

What is ‘Día de Shakira’ and when will the Colombian singer be recognized?

“Spotify announces #ShakiraDay in response to the fans’ call, who have played a key role in amplifying the message. This initiative is a tribute to the artist who has proudly represented Colombia to the world for many years,” stated Manuela Echeverry, the Head of Artist and Label Relations for Spotify in the Andean region.

Why September 19th for Shakira Day?

This date commemorates a quarter of a century since the release of her fourth studio album, “Dónde están los ladrones,” which includes tracks like ‘Ciega, sordomuda’ and ‘Si te vas.’ This album became the best-selling Spanish-language album in the United States and marked her ascent to the global star she is today.

“A notable moment in my career since my global debut with ‘Dónde están los ladrones’ has been performing at three World Cups, participating in a Super Bowl, and debuting in the Billboard Top 10 after more than 30 years!” said the artist in an interview with Spotify’s For The Record blog.

This initiative is part of Spotify’s recent campaign in Colombia and Latin America, #ShakiraMereceUnDía, where they also conducted a survey revealing that 72% of surveyed Colombians believe that the artist from Barranquilla unquestionably deserves a day in her honor. According to the platform’s survey, 37% believe that Shakira has transformed Colombia’s global image, and 31% appreciate her for the influence and impact she has had on other artists.
