What led to Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s breakup

More details have emerged on what led to Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn ending their relationship after six years.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are no longer a couple following news over the weekend that they have gone their separate ways after six years.

The couple reportedly split a few weeks ago, but word only began to filter on Saturday as Swift took a break from her Eras Tour to film a new music video.

Now, word on what may have led to the breakup is starting to emerge.

What led to Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn’s breakup

It seems as though the split was largely down to differences in their personalities.

“They’ve had rough patches before and always worked things out, so friends thought they would take some time apart but eventually come back together,” a source told People, adding that in the end they “weren’t the right fit for one another.”

“They had plenty in common and fell in love in a safe bubble while she was retreating from the world during ‘Reputation’.

“Then the pandemic hit, and they were locked down together and able to continue growing their relationship in this insulated way. But he didn’t really ‘know’ her yet outside of that bubble.

“Joe has struggled with Taylor’s level of fame and the attention from the public. The differences in their personalities have also become harder to ignore after years together. They’ve grown apart.”

Despite the split, the source adds that they remain on good terms.

“Taylor didn’t see them working out in the long run,” they said. “They are friendly. She doesn’t have anything bad to say about Joe. They just grew apart. Taylor is staying very focused on her tour right now.”

The outlet added that representatives from both sides have yet to comment on the split.

Fans wonder if Swift was hinting at a split at recent tour stop

Following news of the split, Swift fans were quick to point out that the singer made a slight change to her ‘Eras Tour’ setlist during her recent stop at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Swift swapped out ‘Invisible String’ for ‘The 1′ for all three performances.

Written from the perspective of one of Swift’s friends, the song looks at life and past romances with a positive approach, all while delivered in a sad but humorous tone.

Swift and Alwyn’s relationship history

The couple were first linked with one another in May 2017, though its believed they had been dating for months before then.

Fans believe they met at the 2016 Met Gala based on theories using Swift’s lyrics from her 2017 song, ‘Dress’, which references both her and Alwyn’s looks at the event.

They later went Instagram official by posting matching cactus photos, and over the next six years, they largely kept their relationship out of the public eye, though they were spotted at several red carpet events.

Swift would also go on to explain that she’s written several songs about their relationship.
