The Weeknd is set to show off his acting skills following news that he is set to make his feature acting debut.

What movie will The Weeknd star in?

The picture is currently untitled, while its plot and genre are also being kept under wraps.

What we do know is that The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, co-wrote the movie, and he is also set to produce it.

The film will be directed by Trey Edward Shults, known for his acclaimed work on ‘Waves’ and ‘It Comes at Night’. He co-wrote the film along with Tesfaye and his producing partner Reza Fahim.

Who will star in the movie?

Along with Tesfaye, the film will also feature Jenna Ortega, the star of ‘Wednesday’ and ‘Scream VI’.

They’ll be joined by Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor from ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ and ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’.

What else do we know about the project?

Shults and Tesfaye have also hired director of photography Chayse Irvin, as well as composer and producer OPN, aka Daniel Lopatin. He will be scoring the film, which is currently shooting in Los Angeles, along with The Weeknd.

The film marks The Weeknd’s feature acting debut, but he is also set to star in the HBO series ‘The Idol’, which is co-created with ‘Euphoria’s’ Sam Levinson and Fahim.

The Weeknd and his music

While The Weeknd is branching out into acting, his music career is still proving successful as well.

He recently became the first artist in Spotify history to hit 100 million monthly listeners according to the streaming platform.

“It’s official: On February 27, The Weeknd became the first artist in Spotify History to reach 100 Million monthly listeners,” Spotify announced via its official social media accounts on Twitter and Instagram.

To put the numbers into context, Drake’s tally in February sits at around 70 million, while Taylor Swift sits at just over 80 million.

The Weeknd already has Spotify’s most played song of all time, ‘Blinding Lights’, which has been played a record 3.4 billion times.

It also comes after his ‘The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium’ premiered on HBO Max over the weekend.
