First came reports that the Gallagher brothers had “settled their differences.” Thoughts immediately turned to Oasis reuniting for a series of massive concerts in the UK for 2025 and we didn’t have to wait long before both Liam and Noel ended speculation when they posted a brief video teasing an announcement for Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 8am. And on that morning fans got the information they were hoping for, a raft of venues spanning the British Isles.

Step forward a few weeks and a United States tour, as part of a world trip, was confirmed. A money-spinner it is surely going to be for the band.

Oasis last stand in the United States... until now

Although never as huge in the US as they were back home, the lads have been across the pond before. The night of December 20, 2008, was the group’s last gig there and it came at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. It was the final performance off 11 dates and marked – so we all believed until recently – a significant moment in music history: the last time Oasis, one of Britain’s most iconic rock bands, would play a concert in the United States. Little did the thousands of fans packing the stadium that night know, they were witnessing the end of an era, at least for a while.

By the time Oasis embarked on their Dig Out Your Soul tour in 2008, the band had already cemented their status as one of the most influential and beloved acts in rock music. With hits like “Wonderwall,” “Champagne Supernova,” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” Oasis had defined the sound of Britpop in the ‘90s and early 2000s. Their shows were known for their swagger, raw energy, and the volatile dynamic between the Gallagher brothers.

Dig Out Your Soul, the album that the tour supported, was an experimental departure for the band. Moving beyond the catchy anthems that made them famous, Oasis explored heavier, psychedelic influences. Fans, however, still turned up in droves, eager to hear the classics mixed with newer tracks like “The Shock of the Lightning” and “Falling Down.”

What was Oasis’ most successful song in the USA?

Oasis burst, or should I say, ‘swaggered’, onto the UK music scene in 1991, going on to sell over 75 million records worldwide. However, despite their massive success in the UK and other parts of the world, Oasis never quite reached the same level of stardom in the US.

Noel once explained the band’s relatively modest success in America, attributing it to their refusal to play by the industry’s rules. “America couldn’t handle the fact that we didn’t care about anything,” he said, noting that this attitude kept Oasis from securing a No. 1 album or Grammy nominations stateside.

In the States, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in 1996, with Be Here Now reaching No. 2 the following year. However, singles like “Wonderwall” and “Live Forever” gained significant airplay on alternative rock stations. “Wonderwall” remains their most successful US hit, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1996. Other singles, like “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova,” also found success on alternative charts but didn’t reach the same heights on the mainstream US charts.
