‘When Emma Falls In Love’ lyrics: Who is Taylor Swift’s new song about?
With a global tour announced and new tracks being released, fans are excited about the background to one in particular.
“It’s Emma Stone, right?” That’s what you’re immediately telling me as you open this article about Taylor Swift’s newly released ‘When Emma Falls In Love’. Well, that’s what I thought too so then went digging to see if I could get it confirmed. It didn’t take long...
Before I explain, however, you’ll be wanting to read through each line of the song which comes from her re-recorded album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), and get a feel for what many entertainment buffs are talking about right now.
The lyrics to Taylor Swift’s ‘When Emma Falls In Love’
Here you go...
...and you can have a listen to how the song should be sung, thanks to this video, Taylor’s version from The Vault.
So, who is ‘When Emma Falls In Love’ about?
OK, the truth is we don’t know for certain. How could we? Taylor hasn’t, as far as I can gather, confirmed the inspiration behind the name in the song, although she did admit to the audience at her latest Kansas City gig (tour details below) that it was written about a best friend of hers. And we know that Emma Stone has been a close friend for several years, ever since hooking up at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008, so the link is understandable.
There are also some clues in the lyrics themselves, although for this I turn to more trusted Swift experts.
“When Emma falls in love, she calls up her mom, jokes about the ways that this one could go wrong,” Taylor sings and as Lauren Huff points out for Entertainment Weekly, Stone is known to have a close relationship with her mother, ‘having taken her as a date to numerous awards shows over the years and having publicly stayed by her side as she fought breast cancer in 2008.’
Huff then cites the lyric, “She waits and takes her time, ‘cause little miss sunshine always thinks it’s gonna rain,” as exhibit number two. The link to the Hollywood star could be, she says, related to ‘one of the most famous scenes in Stone’s film Easy A involves her jubilantly singing along to a greeting card that plays Natasha Bedingfield’s hit “Pocketful of Sunshine.”
The pair’s friendship is also picked up by Samantha Olson for Seventeen magazine. She recalls when Stone explained how it’s often who you know when getting tickets to a massively in-demand concert.
“I was lucky ‘cause we’ve been friends for a really long time,” Emma said about securing ‘The Eras Tour’ passes. “I’ve known her since we were 17 and 18, so she hooked me up, which was very nice ‘cause I know those tickets are impossible to get. She’s a wonderful friend. She blows my mind.”
I’m convinced, but let’s see if the singer-songwriter reveals more while frolicking around the world. And so to the tour...

Swift excited her legion of fans when she announced the ‘The Eras Tour’ would be extended by an extra 14 shows. Having kicked off in the US this month, Taylor is later going to, in her words, “frolic” around the UK, Europe and far beyond as she looks to cram in as much as possible around the world.

Despite being outside the US, there is not a doubt in anyone’s mind that the concerts will not sell out, tickets likely being snapped up quicker than you can say ‘shake it off’.
That notable gig in the Spanish capital aligns perfectly with the Santiago Bernabéu’s goal of becoming more than just a soccer stadium. The ultra-modern new stadium will be the pride of Real Madrid and will welcome A-list artists of the world of entertainment as readily as it does the stars of the Beautiful Game.
