When is Jenna Ortega making her ‘Saturday Night Live’ hosting debut?
The ‘Wednesday’ actress is set to host, with The 1975 joining her as musical guests.
Jenna Ortega announced to fans that she will be hosting Saturday Night Live on March 11, with musical guests The 1975.
This marks the 20-year-old’s first time hosting the late-night show after appearing in the hit Netflix show ‘Wednesday.’
Living her childhood dream
Before playing Wednesday Addams, the dour Addams family daughter, Ortega played Tara Carpenter in 2022′s ‘Scream,’ and as Ellie Alves in Season 2 of ‘You,’ alongside Penn Badgley and Carmela Zumbado. She will be reprising her role as Tara in the upcoming ‘Scream VI.’
Ortega formally began her acting career in 2012, with a minor role in ‘CSI: NY,’ followed by an appearance on ‘Days of Our Lives’ the following year.
The actress knew she wanted to be an actress since the age of six. When she was eight, the young actress secured an agent, and her mother would regularly take her to auditions and rehearsals.
Ortega told Good Morning America that her family is surprised at her current level of success.
“Not to say that they didn’t believe in me, because obviously they wouldn’t have done six-hour car trips back and forth, four or five times a week,” the actress recalls. “We had no connection to Hollywood, it was a random thing. I’m living off of a six-year-old girl’s decisions.”
The actress had a breakthrough when she portrayed a young Jane Villanueva on ‘Jane the Virgin,’ appearing multiple times throughout the series in flashbacks.
She was nominated for a 2023 Golden Globe for her ‘Wednesday’ role.
The success of ‘Wednesday’
Ortega’s performance on ‘Wednesday’ was so well received that the show was renewed for a second season, to the delight of fans.
The series’ first season was streamed for over one billion hours and maintained the number one spot on Netflix’s TV chart for five weeks after its premiere on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
