What has the critical reception to Small Things Like These been?
After its world premiere, at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, Small Things Like These attracted positive reviews. “I was so rapt, so caught up in this film, that I wasn’t aware that it was going to be the ending until the screen faded to black,” wrote The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw. “It is an absorbing, committed drama.”
RogerEbert.com’s Robert Daniels described the movie as “a haunting and meditative work”, and Variety’s Guy Lodge praised its “fist-in-the-gut power”.
The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney agreed that Small Things Like These is an “acutely affecting drama”, concluding: “Led with aching sensitivity by Murphy […], this is a somber, unhurried drama that takes its cue from the seeming quietness of the title and is all the more intensely moving for it.”
