Who is Ryan Gosling married to? How many children does he have?
The “Barbie” star found love with Eva Mendes on the set of 2012 crime drama “The Place Beyond the Pines”.
Ryan Gosling has been in the public eye ever since he appeared on Disney Channel’s “The Mickey Mouse Club” alongside Britney Spears, Christian Aguilera and Justin Timberlake at the age of 13 in 1993. His career since then has led him to Hollywood stardom (and three Academy Award nominations) as well as finding love with partner Eva Mendes.
How did Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes meet?
Gosling, now 43, is perhaps best known for his appearances in dramatic drama “The Notebook,” romantic musical “La La Land” and, most recently, “Barbie,” although 2012 crime drama “The Place Beyond the Pines” has undoubtedly had the biggest impact on his life to date.
As well as Bradley Cooper, the movie stars both Gosling and Mendes, who first got together in September 2011 after filming had been completed that summer. In the film, Gosling plays the role of a motorcycle stuntman with a travelling carnival but leaves when he discovers he is the father of ex-lover Mendes’ child. The pair briefly reunite and spend time with their son before his character runs into trouble (no more spoilers here).
Why did Eva Mendes retire from acting?
It proved to Mendes’ penultimate performance before she announced her retirement from acting, with her last role coming in 2014 fantasy thriller “Lost River,” which just happens to be Gosling’s directorial debut. Since then, the “Hitch” star’s only acting credit has been on Australian animated preschool TV series “Bluey,” in which she played a voice role in one episode in 2021.
Gosling and Mendes, who aren’t married, have two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, born in 2014 and 2016 respectively, which she has said is only part of the reason for her deciding to give up her acting career.
Speaking to Variety in 2022, Mendes revealed being a mother was what “she was supposed to do right now” following the births of her children, but also claimed to have grown somewhat disillusioned with the industry.
Could Mendes return to acting in the future?
“I got tired fighting for the good roles. There just was a point where I thought, ‘I’m going to create my own opportunities and become a producer on things and create my own material,’ but it just didn’t feel worth it to me.
“There are more opportunities for Latina actresses now, but when I bowed out 10 years ago I wasn’t being offered things that weren’t specifically Latina.”
Is there any chance we could see Mendes back on our screens, perhaps even back alongside her partner one day? “”It is exciting that things are different now, so who knows what I will do in the future. But right now, I’m keeping it in the home with my kids.”
