Saturday Night Live, the long-running late-night live sketch comedy and variety show, premiered in October 1975 and has since become a staple of American TV.

The show features a mix of live sketches, musical performances, and comedic segments performed by an ensemble cast of comedians and guest hosts.

Over its long history, SNL has launched the careers of famous comedians and actors, including Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Bill Murray, and Kristen Wiig.

Now on its 49th season, the current SNL cast is composed of 17 comedians who are divided into two tiers: 12 repertory players, who are more established; and five featured players, who are newer cast members.

Who’s who on the 2024 SNL cast?

Repertory players

Michael Che

Che joined the cast of SNL as a writer in 2013 and later became a featured player on the show’s 40th season in 2014. He became a full cast member the following season, and is now famous for his appearances on the “Weekend Update” segment, where he co-anchors the news satire segment alongside Colin Jost.

Mikey Day

Day first joined SNL as a writer in 2013. As a repertory player, Day is known for his versatile performances in various sketches. He has appeared in various television shows and films, including “Maya & Marty,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Robot Chicken,” and “Kenan.”

Andrew Dismukes

Dismukes became a featured player on the show in 2020, making him one of the youngest cast members in SNL history at the time of his debut. The comedian has appeared in other television shows and films, and released a stand-up comedy album titled “Popeye” in 2018.

Chloe Fineman

Fineman gained attention for her impressive celebrity impressions and versatile performances in various sketches and characters. She became known for her viral videos and impressions on social media platforms such as Instagram.

Heidi Gardner

Gardner is known for her work with the Groundlings, an improv and sketch comedy troupe based in Los Angeles. Aside from her work on SNL, Gardner has appeared in television shows and films, including “Superstore,” “Life of the Party,” and “The Other Two.”

James Austin Johnson

Johnson gained widespread recognition for his uncanny impressions of political figures and celebrities, which have blown up on social media platforms such as TikTok and Twitter. His viral videos showed impersonations of a wide range of personalities, including former President Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Bernie Sanders.

Punkie Johnson

Johnson joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2020. Aside from SNL she also appeared in television shows such as “Space Force” and “Corporate.”

Colin Jost

Jost joined the writing staff of SNL in 2005 and later became the co-head writer of the show alongside Seth Meyers. He is known for his appearances on the “Weekend Update” segment, where he co-anchors the news satire segment alongside Che. The duo has been co-anchoring “Weekend Update” since 2014, delivering jokes and commentary on current events, politics, and pop culture.

Ego Nwodim

Before joining SNL, Nwodim gained recognition for her work with the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, an improv and sketch comedy group based in Los Angeles. She has appeared in various television shows and films, including “Brockmire,” “2 Broke Girls,” and “Law & Order True Crime.”

Sarah Sherman

Sherman, also known as Sarah Squirm, is known for her trademark surreal style of comedy. She has her own brand of unconventional and often grotesque humor, blending elements of body horror, absurdity, and satire.

Kenan Thompson

In 2003, Thompson joined the cast, becoming the first member to be born after the show’s premiere in 1975. He quickly established himself as a key member of the ensemble, known for his impressions, recurring characters, and comedic performances. Thompson holds the record for the longest-tenured cast member in SNL history, having been on the show since 2003.

Bowen Yang

Yang joined the cast in 2018, becoming the show’s first East Asian cast member, as well as one of the few openly gay cast members in its history. He has appeared in shows and films, including “Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens,” “Broad City,” and “High Maintenance.” He has also written for publications such as “The New Yorker” and “Vulture.”
