Oscars
Why is Jimmy Kimmel trying to slim down before the Oscars?
The late-night talk show host is using a meal prep service and exercising ahead of his Oscars hosting duties on March 12.
Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2023 Oscars on March 12, and the late-night talk show host is hoping his decision to shed some weight ahead of the ceremony pays off.
Kimmel’s decision to lose weight
In this week’s edition of People, Kimmel explained what prompted him to try and lose some weight ahead of the awards.
“I did have a very unfortunate moment where I tried to fit into the tuxedo I wore in 2018 and I didn’t quite make it,” said Kimmel.
“I looked a little bit like a homemade sausage, so I have been trying to lose some weight before the Oscars.”
While Kimmel has taken steps to achieve his goal, he also isn’t setting unrealistic targets.
“I don’t want to show up onstage looking like ‘Cocaine Bear,’ you know what I’m saying?” he joked, referring to the film directed by Elizabeth Banks that was inspired by a true story.
Kimmel has made changes to his diet
Along with exercising, Kimmel says he is using a meal prep service, though he admits the process hasn’t always been an enjoyable one.
“I’ve been getting these little meals in little Tupperware containers delivered to my house every morning,” said Kimmel.
“I have to say, I never feel more sorry for myself than when everyone else is eating spaghetti and I’m eating some little tacos with no tortillas.”
It isn’t the first time Kimmel has talked about new diets while trying to lose weight. Back in 2015, he told Men’s Journal that he had turned to intermittent-fasting.
“Something I’ve been doing for a couple of years now is starving myself two days a week,” Kimmel said at the time.
“On Monday and Thursday, I eat fewer than 500 calories a day, then I eat like a pig for the other five days. You ‘surprise’ the body, keep it guessing.
“If I’m really hungry, a bowl of oatmeal. The rest of the week I’m a glutton — pizza and pasta and steak.”
Tune in to see Kimmel host the Oscars for the third time live on ABC on March 12 at 8 p.m. ET. He previously hosted the shows back in 2017 and 2018.
