Jennifer Lopez announced her new venture into the alcohol business with Delola earlier this week, but fans are slamming the 53-year-old over the move.

Why Jennifer Lopez is in hot water after Delola launch

Fans of the singer made it clear they aren’t convinced by J.Lo’s latest venture for one simple reason: she has stated for years she isn’t a drinker.

“The secret is out!!! I’m proud to share with you @DELOLA … my new collection of unique, mixology-level ready to enjoy spritzes. More is #OnTheJLo. Let’s live the #DelolaLife together ✨💙 📸,” Lopez captioned a video of her promoting the drink on Instagram.

In the video, Lopez adds: “I have been grinding non-stop for decades, and more and more I’m realizing the importance of enjoying life.

“I just wanted to create something better — something better tasting, better ingredients, something I would want to drink with my friends and family, and that is Delola.”

However, there was no shortage of fans who took to the comments section to slam Lopez’s decision to launch an alcohol brand.

“I thought you didn’t drink???” wrote one user, while another added, “Jlo you don’t drink. This is like something that is known and has been pointed out on numerous occasions. I mean….I get it- a coin is a coin- but mama you don’t drink alcohol.”

Another user commented: “Ah capitalism strikes again. J.Lo was an inspiration for me to stay away from alcohol, tho (sic) she is not sober, she talked about how she rarely drinks and if she does it’s a celebratory sip, so it’s a bummer she is promoting alcohol when there are so many great NA drinks!”

One user wrote: “For argument sake, sure it’s business and it’s about money, but it just seems fake AF to be promoting alcohol under the guise of ‘living a little’ when she talks about how bad alcohol is for her skin and is not part of her lifestyle (not to mention Ben’s past issues). But hey, we’ll all flip for a dollar right?”

Lopez’s comments on alcohol in the past

J.Lo has spoken in the past about how she isn’t much of a drinker, even when it comes to celebratory toasts.

“I think it ruins your skin,” she told InStyle in the past. “Of course, during celebratory toasts, everybody’s like, ‘You can’t toast with water!’ So I’ll toast with alcohol and just take a sip.”

As for Delola, Lopez told People she wanted to create something “a little more healthy” with “healthier ingredients and being gluten-free.”

“I’m not a huge alcohol whatever-alcohol drinker, so it needed to be something that was really pleasant tasting,” she said.

The three spritzes, which will be available in April, each contain a different spirit. The Bella Berry is made with Vodka, Paloma Rose with tequila and L’orange has an amaro base.

The 750ml bottles will be sold for $23 and the 375ml for $12, with each single serving having roughly 110 calories or less and containing about the same ABV as a glass of wine.
