Why the royals didn’t attend Harry and Meghan’s daughter’s christening

Rumors swirl over potential royal family drama after the christening for Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Lilibet, was missing some key family members.

The christening took place in Montecito, California, where the Sussexes currently reside. The event included between 20 and 30 of Harry and Meghan’s close friends.

Prince William and Kate Middleton were absent from the guest list at the christening. Many royal experts and members of the public alike wonder if the Prince and Princess of Wales were invited in the first place.

According to British journalist Omid Scobie, a friend of Harry and Meghan’s, the Sussex’s relatives across the pond were indeed all invited to the one-year-old’s coronation.

Scobie claims that King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales declined the invitation.

The British public was left confused by the royal family’s apparently intentional decision, with many taking to social media to express their concerns.

Others were sympathetic to the royals’ decision not to make the trip.

One royal family expert, Phil Dampier, also defended the royal’s choice to decline the California christening invitation.

“If [the Sussexes] genuinely wanted to build bridges and start a healing process why didn’t they come over with their children a couple of weeks before the Coronation and have the christening then?” the author questioned.

He continues, “it would have been the perfect excuse to start the reconciliation process.”

Royal family publicizes busy schedule during week of Lilibet’s christening

The royal family published a list of events and engagements taking place during the week of February 25 to March 3, perhaps implying that they had too many public duties to fit in a trip to California.

The list was published on the royal family’s website. This release comes as many accuse Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate of snubbing Harry and Meghan’s daughter’s christening.

Included in the extensive list of public duties is the Six Nations Rugby Match between England and Wales, a meeting between King Charles and European Commission president Ursula Von Der Leyen, and a visit to the Wales Air Ambulance HQ.
