Will Blake Lively be at the 2023 Met Gala?

Actress Blake Lively has attended the Met Gala most years since 2008. However, the 35-year-old has opted out of this year’s annual event.

Lively confirmed the news on Thursday in New York City at the grand re-opening of the Tiffany and Co. Fifth Avenue. When reporters asked if fans would see her at the Met Gala, she replied, “You will not. But I will be watching.”

Lively’s history at the Met Gala

As mentioned, Lively has been attending the Met Gala since 2008 wearing outfits from a variety of high-end designers like Versace, Gucci, Chanel, Burberry and more.

She’s often appeared alongside her husband, Ryan Reynolds. In fact, the 2014 Met Gala marked their first red carpet appearance as a couple.

Last year, Lively stunned fans in a grand copper Versace Atelier gown with matching gloves and a crown. The theme was In America: An Anthology of Fashion and, with the help of some assistants, the dress transformed into an icy green design.

The look was very clearly inspired by the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Also in 2022, Lively was one of the Met Gala’s co-chairs alongside husband Ryan Reynolds, actress Regina King and Broadway legend Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Things to know about the 2023 Met Gala

The theme for the 2023 Met Gala is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty in honor of the German-born fashion designer who passed away in 2019 at the age of 85.

This year’s co-chairs include actress Penelope Cruz, singer Dua Lipa, screenwriter Michaela Coel and tennis player Roger Federer.

The guest list is composed of a myriad of well-known celebrities and while fans won’t know the complete list until the day of, a few stars have already confirmed their attendance. This includes Paris Hilton, Elle Fanning, Kim Kardashian, Emma Chamberlain, Florence Pugh and more.

The 2023 Met Gala is slated for May 1.
