‘Yellowstone’ is coming to an end, with news that the show will come to a close following its fifth season.

The hit Paramount Network series will end its run when the final episodes of Season 5 premiere in November according to the network.

New ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff announced

While the second part of the final season will be the last for Kevin Costner in Taylor Sheridan’s modern-day Western, the network also announced that an untitled sequel series has been ordered, and will debut on Paramount Network and Paramount+ in December.

While no casting news has been revealed regarding the new series, there have been plenty of rumors that the network was in talks with Matthew McConaughey for the spinoff.

“‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from ‘1883′ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, Chris McCarthy.

While David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, added: “The Dutton story continues, picking up where ‘Yellowstone’ leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world.”

‘Yellowstone’s’ success

‘Yellowstone’ follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Costner), as he looks to maintain control of the biggest cattle ranch in the country through alliances, murder and conflict as others look to unseat him.

The show has proven to be a success, with the first portion of the final season, which was produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, bringing in 17 million viewers after its November 13, 2022 premiere.

News of ‘Yellowstone’ ending and a new series debuting comes after months of speculation regarding Costner’s future with the series. Reports suggested the actor was focused on the epic two-part Western feature ‘Horizon’, which would have impacted his availability for filming on ‘Yellowstone’.
