‘Young and the Restless’ star Eric Braeden reveals cancer diagnosis

Braeden announced his cancer diagnosis via Facebook Live.

Eric Braeden has played Victor Newman in the popular soap opera ‘The Young and the Restless’ since 1980, appearing in over 3000 episodes.

However, the 82-year-old actor delivered fans some bad news after he revealed his cancer diagnosis in a 13-minute video on Facebook Live on Friday. Braedon received the news following a recent knee-replacement surgery.

Braedon’s diagnosis

“I hate to be this personal, but I think this may be good for some older guys who may or may not listen to this,” he said.

He revealed that high-grade cancer cells were discovered near his bladder. Braedon is currently undergoing a six-week immunotherapy treatment plan.

“I’ve learned now to listen to my body more, and not go all out,” Braedon continued. “So if you’ve seen me a little under the weather, yeah, I have been, but I will lick this.

“This b*****d ain’t going to get me, I’m going to get it. I’ll be in top form again soon.”

Braedon also stated that he will continue to act on ‘The Young and the Restless’.

“So that’s where I am now,” he said. “I love acting. I entertain people. I love your support.

“So, whenever you have someone in the family who goes through this, support them. It can work out. Nowadays, there is so much advancement in cancer treatment, you can survive it.”

Braedon’s acting career

Braedon was born in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1959. He got his acting start by guest starring in 120 different roles in both film and television.

His name has been attached to a myriad of projects including ‘Titanic’, ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’, ‘The Rat Patrol’, ‘Colossus: The Forbin Project’, ‘100 Rifles’ and more.

However, his most famous role is that on ‘The Young and the Restless’ for which he was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award in 1998.
