$1.4 billion Powerball jackpot: what are the winning numbers for Wednesday, September 3, 2025?

The Powerball jackpot was $1.4 billion. Here are the winning numbers for the drawing on September 3rd.

Update:

Powerball remains one of the most popular lotteries in the United States, thanks to its staggering payouts. This Wednesday’s jackpot reached an eye-watering $1.4 billion. Here’s how the game works and the winning numbers from today, September 3.

To play, you must buy a ticket in one of the 47 participating jurisdictions, which include most US states as well as Puerto Rico. Players choose six numbers – five between 1 and 69 and one additional number between 1 and 26.

To win the jackpot, all six numbers must match: the five drawn white balls and the red Powerball. Smaller prizes are also available for players with fewer matches.

Powerball results today, September 3: Winning numbers and prizes

After Monday’s draw failed to produce a jackpot winner, the grand prize rose to $1.4 billion, with a lump-sum cash value of $634.3 million.

The winning numbers drawn on Wednesday, September 3 were:

03, 16, 29, 61, 69 – 22 (red Powerball) PowerPlay: 2x

While only those matching all six numbers claim the jackpot, other combinations also pay out, depending on how many numbers match. Here are the combinations and prizes with 1, 2, 3, or more numbers:

  • 5 numbers + Powerball: jackpot
  • 5 numbers: $1,000,000
  • 4 numbers + Powerball: $50,000
  • 4 numbers: $100
  • 3 numbers + Powerball: $100
  • 3 numbers: $7
  • 2 numbers + Powerball: $7
  • 1 number + Powerball: $4
  • Powerball: $4

If a player wins the jackpot, they must choose between two payment options: an annuity – a first payment followed by 29 annual installments that increase by 5% each year – or a one-time cash payout equal to the cash value.

Both options are before taxes. The initial 24% federal withholding applies immediately, and the winner would later fall into the top 37% federal tax bracket when filing. State taxes may also apply, depending on where the ticket was purchased.

When are the Powerball drawings held?

Drawings take place three times a week – every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET (9:59 p.m. CT / 7:59 p.m. PT).

Tickets are available in nearly every state except Alabama, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii and Alaska. The lottery is also played in Washington, D.C., the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. A standard ticket costs $2.

The cutoff to buy a ticket is typically one to two hours before the draw, though this can vary by state and whether tickets are purchased in person or online.
