$1,900 Social Security checks: Exact payment dates in March 2024

Starting on Friday, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will begin issuing payments for the month of March. Every month, the SSA sends more than 70 million checks to Social Security beneficiaries, who are mostly retired workers and people with disabilities. The latter usually receive a payment that falls under the category of Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

How much will the Social Security checks be in March?

The exact amount each beneficiary receives depends on various factors, such as the number of years worked, the salary received, and the taxes paid to Social Security during that same time. The age of the worker at the time of requesting retirement is also considered.

The SSA estimates that the average payment for an individual retiree in 2024 is $1,907, while the average check for couples filing jointly is $3,303. As for SSI beneficiaries, the average payment for an individual in 2024 is $943 and $1,415 for couples filing jointly.

The date of distribution of payments is linked to the date of birth of the beneficiaries. Those who were born between the 1st and the 10th receive the money on the second Wednesday of the month.

Those who have a birth date between the 11th and the 20th get their payments on the third Wednesday, and those from the 21st to the 31st receive them on the last Wednesday of the month.

People who retired before May 1997 as well as SSI beneficiaries do not fall into the previous schedule, since they receive the money on the first day of the month, regardless of their date of birth. Here is the Social Security payment schedule for March, according to the SSA.
