$2,000 vouchers for e-bikes in California: This is who qualifies and how to apply

California is launching a voucher program on December 18 to help lower cost barriers to buying an electric bike, a zero-emissions transport option that can help replace car trips. The $2,000 vouchers from the California E-bike Incentive Project, launched by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), will be provided to income-eligible Californians and can be redeemed at select retailers at the point of purchase.

The first $3 million installment of the California E-bike Incentive Project will help fund 1,500 electric bikes. The initiative is being launched in partnership with more than 20 community-based organizations. They will do outreach and provide application assistance.

Starting at 6 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the program will begin accepting applications on the California E-bike Incentive Project website. Eligible applicants will be notified when they’ve been approved for the up to $2,000 voucher, which they can then use at participating retailers.

Applicants must be over 18 years of age to apply for a voucher as well as verify their household income and complete an online application.

“By using e-bikes, people can get around and meet everyday needs while improving air quality,” said CARB Executive Officer Dr Steven Cliff. “Prioritizing equity and access is key as we work to achieve our zero-emissions goals, and this incentive program will support those efforts by helping e-bikes be part of the solution.”
