The date for the 2023 Academy Awards nominations is Tuesday, 24 January, 2023 at 8.30 a.m. ET (5.30 a.m. PT). Academy Award winner Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams will announce the Oscar nominees on Good Morning America. The nominations will be announced on the Oscars Twitter and YouTube accounts while news channels and websites will publish the information.

The awards themselves are to be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will take place at the renamed Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on 12 March 2023.

Who decides the nominations?

The Oscars nominees and winners are voted for by the members of the Academy, which include film artists working in 17 different branches of motion-picture production, such as actors, directors and writers (check out the full list of branches).

Each member may nominate up to five candidates each for categories within their branch, and for Best Picture. Contenders must accrue a certain amount of nominations to make the final list of nominees.

Once the nominees are set, members then cast their votes for the winners of each award. At this stage, voters are no longer limited to their own branch.
