Update:

Sanne Christensen clearly remembers the day her life changed forever: January 1, 2024. While the rest of the world was celebrating the new year, she was injecting herself with Wegovy for the first time a weight-loss medication that would transform not only her body but her future. Fifteen months later, she has lost over 210 pounds — or, as she told Danish outlet TV 2, “more than I weigh today.”

But her motivation wasn’t vanity or trends. At 41, Sanne was battling chronic kidney disease, taking four different medications for high blood pressure, and living in a body that weighed 370 pounds and barely moved. “I told my therapist I wished I wouldn’t wake up the next day,” she admits. Wegovy was her last hope — a final bet on a life she had nearly given up on.

Transformation without leaving the couch

In the first few months, the results were dramatic. Without working out or even going for walks, Sanne lost 176 pounds. Her appetite disappeared. Wegovy seemed to flip a switch in her brain — the anxiety around food was gone, and just a few bites were enough to feel full. She consumed only about 500 calories a day, carefully logged in an app. “I did it to survive,” she told TV 2.

And she did survive. Today, she walks, lifts kettlebells, and does squats in her living room. A dietitian has helped her gradually increase her daily intake to around 1,200 calories to support her new active routine.

But Wegovy is no miracle drug — it comes with side effects. According to TV 2, Sanne has experienced nausea, dizziness, and hair loss. “But compared to what others have gone through, I got off easy,” she says. The financial cost is also significant: each monthly box costs more than 1,200 Danish kroner (about $175). That’s why now, having reached her goal weight, she’s ready to stop. “Not just because of the money or side effects — I want to prove to myself that I can maintain this on my own.”

This time feels different

Sanne has been here before. Back in 2011, she lost 50 kilos (110 pounds) on the Dukan diet — only to regain it all, and then some. But this time, she insists, is different. She’s learning to lose weight slowly, with sustainable habits and medical support.

She believes she’s better equipped for what comes after Wegovy. “Maybe I’m being naïve, but I feel strong. If setbacks come, I’ll know how to handle them. This time, I’ve taken it slow,” she concludes.
