Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) sends out a range of benefits to recipients in the US.

These include disability payments and retirement checks, as well as survivor benefits, which are paid to sons, spouses or parents of a deceased Social Security recipient.

In addition, the SSA’s list of benefits features the Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a scheme for people with little or no income who are over 65 or have a disability.

Checks of up to $914 per person to go out on Friday

Having now paid out almost all Social Security checks scheduled for September, the SSA still has one more batch of benefits to send this month. On Friday 29 September, the agency will pay out the next round of SSI checks.

This payment run is actually for October’s SSI benefits. Although beneficiaries of the scheme usually receive their money on the first day of each month, October’s payment date has been brought forward because the month begins on a Sunday.

How much can SSI recipients get?

According to the SSA, the maximum amount that a single SSI claimant can receive is $914 a month. Married couples in which both members are eligible for the scheme can get up to $1,371.

SSI beneficiaries who have supplied their bank account details to the SSA will receive their monthly payment by direct deposit. Otherwise, the money is sent out by mail, in the form of a paper check.
