A ranch larger than Rhode Island is now for sale—and it looks straight out of Yellowstone
“This is not just a ranch, it’s an empire,” states the company charged with selling the Pathfinder Ranch located in the heart of Wyoming.

The epic TV series that culminated in Yellowstone, starring Kevin Costner, was one of the most watched cable shows recently. Not just for its outstanding cast and the gripping story it tells, but also for the expansive, awe-inspiring landscapes in which it is set.
Now someone who has fairly deep pockets, they too, could live the life of the Dutton family. One of the largest working ranches in America, “where the Old West lives on,” is up for sale.
Want to own an empire?
Pathfinder Ranch, located in the heart of Wyoming’s high plains, is larger than the state of Rhode Island. “This is not just a ranch, it’s an empire,” states Swan Land Company, the firm charged with selling the property.
The estate is comprised of 12 historic ranches woven together, now organized into four distinct units. “Located between the green timbered Ferris Mountains and the rugged, rocky Pedro Mountains,” it covers more than 916,000 acres, with nearly 100,000 deeded acres.
The selling price? A mere $79,500,000.
What Pathfinder Ranch offers?
Besides barns, corrals and workshops, across the four units there are a number of dwellings, including those for ranch hands, a hunting lodge and houses. The headquarters of the operation are located on the Two Crosses Unit, which is at the heart of estate and covers 180,000 acres.
The Great Pathfinder Lodge offers “6,500 square feet of rustic elegance, nine bedrooms, seven and a half baths, full bar and sprawling living spaces, designed to gather and entertain,” states Swan Land Company.
The properties surround the Pathfinder Reservoir, 20 miles of the Sweet Water River and sections lie along miles of the North Platte River, which is a “world-class fishery that beckons anglers to its waters.”
Additionally, large portions of the estate are part of a sage-grouse habitat mitigation bank to help restore and conserve critical habitat. This easement through a US Fish and Wildlife Service agreement puts funds in an endowment that help offset the operational costs of the ranch.
“Pathfinder offers a rare combination of scale, water, wildlife, and history,” states Swan Land Company in the listing. “This legacy ranch represents the Old West with exceptional grazing opportunities and seemingly endless acreage for hunting, fishing, boating, and exploring Wyoming’s unspoiled beauty.”
“You look from one mountain range to the next, and the realization hits you: everything in between is Pathfinder,” says Scott Williams, associate broker at Swan Land Company. “A vast expanse of grasslands, sagebrush, river corridors, wildlife, and wind. Simply put, it’s freedom.”
