Update:

Bringing back things from the past - flares, Adidas Sambas, wooly mammoths - is an incredibly popular way to get a company’s marketing message across to the masses and a sure fire way to make hearts flutter as we reminisce about when summers were nicer, policemen were taller and I could run a sub-30-minute 5k.

Costco have jumped on the bandwagon and have brought back a fan favourite soda from the 1980s, with the slogan alone sure to spark memories of, ahem, 50 years ago!

It was back in the heady days of 1984: Reagan was reelected, LeBron was born, the Summer Olympics were held in Los Angeles and the Ghostbusters asked, “Who you gonna call?”.

The year 1984 was also when PepsiCo introduced Slice, a fruit juice-infused soda quickly that quickly became a hit with the slogan “We got the juice!”

Sprite was the main player in the drinks game at the time and Slice was Pepsi’s answer to their domination. Its original flavour was a lemon-lime soda but the popularity of the beverage saw that number quickly increase.

With 10% real juice, it was considered a healthier alternative to other sodas but by the 2000s, Slice had vanished from store shelves.

But now it’s back.

Discontinued 80s ‘healthy soda’ re-released

In a press release, Suja Life, the new owners of the brand, announced that "Slice, the real soda made with real benefits, is rolling out across retail shelves nationwide. The nostalgic and boldly carbonated healthy sodas, including Orange, Lemon Lime, Classic Cola and Grapefruit Spritz are now available at select Costco, Albertson’s, and select HEB locations across the country."

We’re thrilled to usher in a new era for Slice, bringing this beloved brand back with a modern and exciting twist,” added Maria Stipp, the CEO of Suja Life.

“Our mission at Suja Life is to revolutionize America’s health through what we drink. While we know not everyone is reaching for a wellness shot, soda is a staple in nearly every American’s refrigerator. By transforming this everyday beverage into a leveled-up version with benefits, we’re making a significant impact on the health and well-being of our consumers.”
