German election results: Musk’s influence has paid off as the far-right AfD soars
The far-right has seen a huge increase in popularity over the past months and the exit polls result has confirmed their rise.

The growth of the far-right across the world has continued in Germany, where AfD, Alternative for Germany, have secured a huge number of votes in the recent election, according to exit polls.
The conservative CDU/CSU party is set to be the largest party in the next German parliament with just under 30% of the vote, giving him over 211 seats in the Bundestag, but the aforementioned group, led by Alice Weidel, are claiming an “historic result” for the country. “We will hunt down the others to make sensible policies for our country,” she added.
Conservative leader Friedrich Merz is now set to become Germany’s next chancellor. He hailed a “terrific election campaign” and urged the formation of a new government as soon as possible.
German exit poll results:
CDU/CSU: 28.5% | 210 seats
AfD: 20.2% | 147 seats
SPD: 16.2% | 118 seats
GRÜNE: 12.7% | 92 seats
Die Linke: 8.5% | 62 seats
FDP: 4.9% | 0 seats
BSW: 4.8% | 0 seats
Others: 3.9% | 0 seats
“The world out there is not waiting for us, nor is it waiting for lengthy coalition talks and negotiations,” Merz said as he declared victory. “We must now quickly regain our ability to act so that we can do the right thing at home, so that we are once again present in Europe, so that the world can see that Germany is being governed reliably again.”
Olaf Scholz, the current chancellor and leader of the Social Democrats (SPD) are heading for a historically low result. “Now we have the far-right - the AfD - and the fact they got such a good election result is something we cannot accept and I will never accept,” he said.

“We need to stick to what we have always said, we mustn’t work with the far-right”, he added.
Elon Musk has given his support to the AfD, tweeting “Only the AfD can save Germany” just before Christmas. This result in Germany, while the far-right group do not have control of the government, is certainly a victory for the current administration inside the White House.
