A Tarantino twist: Pete Hegseth quoted Samuel Jackson’s character from ‘Pulp Fiction’ - not the Bible

During a worship service at the Pentagon this week, Pete Hegseth share a prayer that was taken more out of the book of Pulp Fiction than the Bible.

The Trump administration has been having quite the time of it these past couple weeks when it comes to offending people with its use of religion. The president criticized Pope Leo XIV over the pontiff’s Easter message of peace and not backing the U.S. aggression against Iran, angering Catholics.

He then kicked up a hornets’ nest from “both sides of the religious aisle” when he posted an AI generated picture of himself as Jesus surrounded by patriotic imagery healing a sick person. He unconvincingly tried to say it was a picture of him as a doctor.

Now, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is in the spotlight, once again, for a prayer he gave this week during his regular worship service at the Pentagon. The ultra-conservative Christian recited a prayer that he said had been given prior to the rescue operation earlier this month to the A-10 crews that went by the call sign Sandy 1.

“They call it CSAR 25:17, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17," he shared before reciting it. Unfortunately, as pop culture savvy netizens quickly pointed out, it was far more closely related to the book of Pulp Fiction according to Quentin Tarantino.

In the 1994 film, Jules Winnfield, played by Samuel L. Jackson gives a fiery Biblical speech shortly before he executes ‘Brett’ while retrieving a briefcase for his boss. While that speech is based on Ezekiel 25:17, Tarantino generously embellished the Jackson’s pseudo-passage in his own style, which is clearly a closer source for the CSAR 25:17 as can be see in the above clip of the two side-by-side.
