‘Amsterdam’ the movie premieres today: What did Christian Bale say about Taylor Swift, the director and cast?
Taylor Swift and Christian Bale star in Amsterdam which will be released on 7 October. What has the cast said about the film?
‘Amsterdam,’ the new movie starring Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and Taylor Swift, directed by David O. Russell, will hit theaters around the country on 7 October.
This is the latest project Bale and Russell has worked on together. The two began their collaboration in 2013 with ‘American Hustle,’ with Bale telling IndieWire that they have been looking for new projects to work on together.
Since 2013, Bale has worked with Russel to develop a character, Bert, who makes his appearance in the new film. Bale described the development of Bert in the interview, saying, “I went away and made ‘Vice’ and ‘Ford v. Ferrari’ while we were doing that. But all the time, David was working away on the story, and I had Bert kind of bubbling in the back of my brain.” After a couple of years, Bale received a call from Russel, who told him about “a historical episode that had happened in America” that surprised to him. It is this event that forms the basis for the plot of the movie.
Based on the relationship between the actor and director, this film could be one of many the two work on together in the coming years.
Taylor Swift’s acting gave Bale chills on set
Bale told People magazine that his daughter is a major swiftie and that filming with the singer was a bit surreal.
“When my daughter was little, she would sing a lot of songs. So that was often going around my head—different Taylor Swift songs—as I was standing there.” Perhaps the actor himself is a bit of a fan as well..
Bale also mentioned that he was taken aback by Swift’s singing abilities.
There is one scene in the movie where Taylor Swift sings, and in the lead up her angelic voice had been silenced by Bale and J.D. Washington. Then, Russel asked for a take with just Swift.... In describing the moment, Bale said, “It is stunning when you’ve got someone with a beautiful voice there, standing right next to me. It gave me goose bumps.”
The cast had a great time filming
In addition to Taylor Swift, Christian Bale, and Margot Robbie, the rest of the cast is just as stacked, including Chris Rock, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mike Myers, and Robert De Niro.
In speaking about his time on set with Chris Rock, he said, “I found myself giggling during the takes.” When not in character, he said that he “was just like idiot Christian from England, giggling and being a fan of Chris Rock’s stand-up.”
