With Christmas just gone and the start of 2024 round the corner, we are well into the week that sits awkwardly between the two. People the world over drop the use of the Monday to Friday and instead work their way through the period using calendar dates, with all eyes on January 1 for a full reset. During this time, plenty of establishments close up as public holidays come racing past, so we’re going to take a look at just what the Post Offices have on the agenda as we move into 2024.

Are post offices open on New Year’s?

According to the USPS official website, Local Post Office locations will be closed on both December 31 and January 1; mail pickups and deliveries also stopped, with the exception of Priority Male Express mail, which will continue to be delivered. Of course, customers are always encouraged to check the operating hours with their local post office.

When will I get my mail after New Year’s in 2024?

Since New Year’s Day falls on a Monday, USPS deliveries are not expected to arrive until Tuesday, 2 January. All post offices will be closed and will reopen on the first Tuesday of 2024.

Here’s how the USPS website frames the two dates:

USPS schedule:

Sunday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve)

  • Local Post Office locations will be closed.
  • Blue Collection Boxes: Mail will not be picked up.
  • Regular mail will not be delivered.
  • Priority Mail Express mail will be delivered.

Monday, January 1 (New Year’s Day)

  • Local Post Office locations will be closed.
  • Blue Collection Boxes: Mail will not be picked up.
  • Regular mail will not be delivered.
  • Priority Mail Express mail will be delivered.
