Just when things couldn’t get any worse for Trump and Hegseth in Iran, the head of the National Counterterrorism Center quits due to the president’s decision to attack Iran.

Bad news for Donald Trump: The Director of the National Counterterrorist Center resigns in protest to the war with Iran

Joseph Kent, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, posted his resignation letter on X today, citing the war in Iran as the reason for leaving. “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” Kent said. “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.

What some considered a rumor and others thought was a conspiracy theory, now has more footing after this high level resignation was made public today. Trump had bragged about destroying Iran’s nuclear capacity last summer after launching attacks against, what the administration claimed to be, military targets. It now is apparent that the idea to attack Iran wasn’t due to imminent threats, it was put on the president’s table by the Israeli lobby in Washington D.C.
“Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war with Iran,” Kent said in his letter. “This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States…”
Since the start of the new conflict with Iran, the administration had not given any clear information about the objectives of the mission or why the U.S. had decided to attack the region again. Some speculated the aim was to get rid of the current regime, but after Khamenei’s death, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was appointed as his successor. Many online influencers were convinced Trump was trying to distract the nation from the growing discontent with the Epstein files and others pointed towards Netanyahu. Trump admitted to it:
President Trump said that it was “not a good thing to do” to attack Iran “out of habit,” but he did it on behalf of “good allies” in the Middle East, naming “Israel” specifically.

International pressure has been intense since the start of the war after the U.S. allegedly bombed an all-girls school killing 168 people. Current estimates put the number of civilian deaths at over 3,000. Now, with oil prices skyrocketing, and U.S. allies denying Trump’s request to help out in the Strait of Hormuz, the situation is becoming unsustainable for the U.S. government.
Trump supporters are not backing the president as his claims for “America First” are not being upheld after this latest attack, which Americans are having a hard time understanding how this latest military operation is going to benefit them. The MAGA supporters are also against sending troops to Iran, where thirteen American troops have already been killed, according to the BBC.
This latest resignation by Joseph Kent could be the beginning of the end of the U.S. war with Iran.
