California flash flood: Which school districts have canceled classes today, Monday, Feb. 5?
A severe winter storm is lashing California bringing potentially “life-threatening” flooding. Some school districts have suspended classes on Monday.

A second atmospheric river is drenching California prompting flash flood warnings in parts of central and southern coastal areas. Governor Gavin Newsom has proclaimed a state of emergency for eight counties in southern California and evacuation orders have been issued in several locations.
Due to the potentially “life-threatening” flooding some school districts will close their doors on Monday. The determination for Tuesday in one will be announced today. Additionally, multiple universities will shift to online instruction due to the severe weather.

California flash flood: Which school districts have canceled classes today, Monday, Feb.5?
As of Sunday evening, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said that the Los Angeles Unified School District schools will remain open Monday based on the forecast. However, those plans could change due to shifting conditions as the powerful storm moves through the area. An update will be announced at 6am PT on Monday.
Carvalho speaking at a press conference said that due to an evacuation warning, Vinedale College Preparatory Academy in Sun Valley will be closed but that students and staff will be moved to Glenwood Elementary.
On Friday, Guadalupe Union School District, Santa Barbara Unified School District, Santa Maria Bonita School District, and Santa Maria Joint Union High School District all announced that classes and district offices will be closed on Monday 5 February. Parents and staff in the Santa Barbara Unified School District will be informed about status of classes for Tuesday 6 February on Monday via message.
Multiple school districts in Sonoma county have decided to cancel classes for Monday 5 February due to power outages, treacherous road conditions and downed trees. Fort Ross Elementary School was damaged by a falling tree.

- Cal Poly Pomona: "Will pivot to remote classes and remote work for non-essential employees"
- Cal State Fullerton: "Will pivot to remote classes on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024"
- California State University Long Beach: "On-campus, in-person classes may shift to online instruction or alternative assignments, where possible."
- Cal State San Bernardino: "No in-person, on campus courses" will be held at both campuses [San Bernardino and Palm Desert]
- University of California Santa Barbara: "Instructors should move to remote instruction or reschedule classes that are scheduled for Monday, February 5, wherever possible"
