China is building the world’s largest military center
Satellite imagery suggests that China is developing a massive military center close to Beijing.

As geopolitical tensions escalate across many parts of the world, new satellite images have revealed the scale of a colossal military project in China. Behind closed doors, Beijing is building what could become the largest underground military command center ever built. A symbol of its strategic ambitions and its desire to compete with the United States, this project is both intriguing and worrying according to experts.

Since the 1980s, China has equipped itself with underground shelters capable of withstanding the most powerful bombs. This approach stems from the Cold War, when the Soviet Union and Germany built a large number of bunkers and underground bases. Now, Beijing is taking this concept to an unprecedented scale with the construction of the largest military bunker ever undertaken.
According to a Financial Times investigation based on satellite images, China is building a monumental military complex west of its capital, unofficially nicknamed “Beijing Military City.” This 1,500-hectare site—ten times the size of the US Pentagon—is intended to house the People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) high command in the event of conflict, including a nuclear scenario. The images reveal immense excavations and frenetic activity, suggesting the existence of a network of tunnels and fortified installations.
China’s ‘Beijing Military City’ isn’t just ten times bigger than the Pentagon—it’s ten times louder in signaling Beijing’s ambitions. A doomsday bunker or a megaphone for power? Either way, the world is listening (and watching via satellite). pic.twitter.com/PA2vd8qud4

Some experts believe the new base could also serve as an administrative center or large-scale military training facility.
To date, the Chinese authorities have not commented on the existence of this mammoth project and while Washington is closely monitoring the construction site, Beijing continues to assert its policy of defense and peaceful development.
