Update:

The United States' Social Security Administration (SSA) will this week send out its latest batch of benefits for February 2025.

According to the Social Security payment schedule shared by the SSA, three groups of recipients have already been issued their money for this month, while two remaining rounds of checks are still to go out.

Who in the U.S. gets Social Security benefits?

The SSA’s chief Social Security programs distribute payments to: retired workers, disabled workers, surviving family members of deceased workers, and Americans signed up to the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) scheme.

Retirement, disability and survivors' benefits are contribution-based: the monthly amount issued to beneficiaries of these three programs is dependent on how much has been paid in Social Security taxes.

Meanwhile, the SSI scheme - which benefits Americans who have little or no income, and are over 65 or have a disability - does not depend on payment of Social Security taxes. SSI amounts are calculated on the basis of recipients' needs.

How much do Social Security beneficiaries get?

Retired workers, who as of January 2025 represented just under 70% of the more than 75 million Social Security beneficiaries in the U.S., receive an average payment of around $2,000 per month ($1,976, according to figures published by the SSA).

Disabled workers are paid $1,580 a month on average, and the surviving spouse of a deceased worker gets an average sum of $1,832 per month. An individual SSI beneficiary is entitled to a maximum monthly payment of $967.

Which Social Security beneficiaries receive their check on Feb. 19?

Most Social Security beneficiaries receive their money on one of three Wednesdays, under a staggered system that determines a recipient’s payment date by their birthday.

In February, checks issued as part of this system began going out on Wednesday, February 12, to Social Security beneficiaries born on the 1st to the 10th of the month.

On Wednesday, February 19, it will be the turn of recipients born on the 11th to the 20th of the month. A week later, benefits will then be paid out to Social Security recipients born on the 21st to the 31st of the month.

Staggered Wednesday payment schedule - Feb 2025

  • Wednesday, February 12: Beneficiaries born from 1st to 10th of the month
  • Wednesday, February 19: Beneficiaries born from 11th to 20th of the month
  • Wednesday, February 26: Beneficiaries born from 21st to 31st of the month

Has anyone else already been paid for Feb.?

Yes. Some recipients of Social Security benefits receive their checks outside of the above timeline and, as a result, have already been issued their February cash.

Beneficiaries of the SSI program received their money at the end of January. Their checks are normally distributed on the 1st of each month, but payment is brought forward if the month begins on a weekend or holiday.

As February 1 fell on a Saturday, the SSA was scheduled to send out this month’s SSI checks on Friday, January 31.

Meanwhile, retired workers, disabled workers and survivors who began picking up their Social Security benefits before May 1997 were paid on Monday, February 3. Regardless of their birth date, these recipients always get their money on the 3rd of the month (unless it’s a Saturday/Sunday/holiday).
