As California residents prepare for Tropical Storm Hilary, the first such weather system to hit the southern part of the state in 84 years, a new earthquake is reported in the Golden State.

According to official information from the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on Sunday afternoon, an earthquake was recorded near Ojai in Ventura County.

The magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred at 2:41 p.m. (local time) on August 20 and its epicenter was Ojai, between Santa Barbara and Ventura, taking place along the Sisar Fault. The tremor caused at least two aftershocks, measuring 3.1 and 3.6, which followed the initial quake.

According to a USGS tool that gives residents a chance to self-report their experience of earthquakes, the tremor was felt throughout Los Angeles and nearby areas.
