Reports suggest that there has been no casualties from the large earthquake in central Asia though the tremor could be felt as far as New Delhi.

An earthquake has shaken southern Afghanistan in another humanitarian disaster to strike the Asian nation.

At this point no deaths have been registered.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department registered the quake as 6.8 on the Richter scale while the US Geological Survey (USGS) marked it slightly lower at 6.5. These are both smaller than the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey at the beginning of February.

The epicentre has been marked as 25 miles (40km) south east of the town of Jurm in the Hindukush region. Its size means neighbours India and Pakistan could feel the tremor, including India’s capital New Delhi which is 670 miles (1078 km) miles away. That is further than the distance from Washington DC to Chicago.

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan killed over 1,000 people last year as the country struggles to attract international aid since the Taliban regained control in 2021.
