Eggs aren’t the only thing getting more expensive: This is how much a dozen roses will cost you this Valentine’s Day 2025

If roses are part of your plan to splurge this Valentine’s Day on that special person in your life, get ready to fork out a small fortune.

Some of the most common ways to show your feelings for that someone special in your life on Valentine’s Day include a cuddly teddy bear, box of chocolates, jewelry and a romantic dinner. And lest we forget, a bouquet of flowers.

Americans are planning on spending $27.5 billion this year according to the National Retail Federation. That works out to almost $189 per person. But if you are planning on buying roses for your Valentine, you’ll have to dedicate roughly half of that amount for a bouquet of a dozen.

The average price for a dozen long-stem red roses is up again in 2025

The good news in 2025 is that the price for a dozen long-stem red roses only increased by 2% from last year. The year before the price climbed over 10%. Those Americans planning to give their someone special a bouquet this year can expect to fork out anywhere from $68 in California to $143 in Hawaii. According to FinanceBuzz the average price nationwide is $90.50.

In addition to Hawaii, the other states in the top five where roses will be the most expensive include Texas, Washington, Montana and Kentucky, all have an average price over $100 this year along with four other states.

At the other end of the spectrum, Indiana, Alaska, Oklahoma and Massachusetts join California as the five states with the cheapest roses this year. In those states, along with six other s, you can buy a dozen long-stem red roses for less than $80.

What’s driving up the price of roses

The vast majority of roses that are sold in the United States are imported, mainly from Colombia which accounts for 58% of all flowers imported to the US. The next biggest exporter of flowers to the US is Ecuador representing 25% of imports stateside according to the Association of Floral Importers of America.

In total, over a billion roses will be imported for this Valentine’s Day. Some of the factors that drive the price variation from state to state include climate, taxes and shipping costs among others.
