Extensive study reveals which state is the most romantic: Valentine’s Day ranking 1 to 50
Valentine’s Day is here, and millions of Americans will be celebrating a romantic evening. But where in the US are people more romantic?

Roughly half of Americans planned to celebrate Valentine’s Day last year according to a CBS News/YouGov survey. It broke down to over two thirds of those in a relationship and nearly a quarter that weren’t.
But like any other topic across the United States the amount that people take advantage of the occasion to create an especially romantic moment varies from coast to coast. Thanks to the number crunchers at Bookies.com we know which Americans have been struck by Cupid’s arrow and get more into the spirit of Valentine’s Day.
The most and least romantic states in 2025
Looking at Google search trends for ‘Valentine’s Day’ over the past five years, Bookies.com was able to give each state in the Union a score from 1 to 100. Once they had the average score the site that normally dedicates its time to sport betting ranked the states from the most to the least romantic.
West Virginia took a ding in their score last year, dropping to a score of 90, tarnishing the state’s perfect score four years running. However, the state easily kept its place at the top of the list with an average score of 98. Ohio, on the other hand, saw a spike in romantic feelings in 2024, sending its score soaring to a perfect 100 and securing its place as the fifth-most romantic state in the US.
If you are looking for a romantic partner, you’ll most likely want to move east. Joining West Virginia and Ohio at the top of the most romantic states were Delaware (No. 2), New Jersey (No. 3), Pennsylvania (No. 4), Rhode Island (No. 8) and Connecticut (No. 10).
While you would think that colder climes with more inclement weather would be an ideal place for cuddling up in front of a warm fireplace for a romantic moment, you may be mistaken. Coming in last place was Oregon followed in order by Washington, Alaska, Minnesota, and Colorado.
