Elon Musk laid off 6,000 employees three weeks ago and now the US faces a much bigger problem
The South African businessman has been on a slash-and-burn mission in federal government since his appointment into office.
Next time you try to wash the dishes, tuck your little fingers into your hand. Then do the same for your thumbs and see how tricky things are. The time after that, make sure your elbows are always touching your ribs. For the third time, close one eye and stand on one leg.
Apart from getting over the embarrassment of having to explain to the nosy neighbours over the road what on Earth you’re doing, you’ll quickly find that the simple job of washing up becomes almost impossible.
This is what Elon Musk wants to do to Federal Government. While you may be able to just about get by without your little fingers, no thumbs, upper arms or legs is just stupid, not to mention the lack of an eye. Sure, the Federal Government could do with some trimming down - every company ends up with people stuck in the middle who don’t seem to do anything (if you don’t know who it is at your job, it’s you) - Musk’s insanely over-the-top cuts are harming its ability to function at all.
Why is Elon Musk cutting the Federal Government?
The unelected South African’s careless tactic of mass sackings across the board under the name of his painfully unfunny DOGE may have gone down well with the man who wants to become King of the United States of America, but in real terms it has been an unmitigated disaster. Over 6,000 jobs have been slashed in around 3 weeks and the Federal Government’s ability to work at all is less of a guarantee as time goes on.
Everyone including inspectors, sniffer dog handlers, biologists and specialised technicians have all gone from one day to the next, with disaster ensuing across the various departments.
For example, the USDA have announced a temporary pause of 45 days due to the cuts that have incapacitated them. According to CNN, it has also terminated funding for two initiatives that provided over $1 billion to farmers in 40 states, supplying fresh food to food banks, pantries and schools. The Huffington Post hints at a potential agricultural crisis on the horizon for the States, and through all this mess, one question sticks out: why is this Musk’s plan?
The answer, dear reader, is about as Black Mirror as things get.
