Elon musk offers $47 to people who register to vote in a key state, what are the requirements?
Elon Musk is offering a financial incentive for those who sign a petition for his new super PAC. When will the payments arrive?
After appearing alongside Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania (the site of the attempted assassination of the former president in July), X owner Elon Musk posted on his platform that he was offering a financial incentive for people looking to register voters in swing states.
Musk has started a super PAC called The America PAC, and is encouraging his followers to sign up. The platform of the organization is focused on free speech and the right to bear arms. “Also earn $47 for every person you refer to sing the petition if they’re in a swing state,” reads the post. However, no details on how the payments will be made has been provided.
Why was $47 selected as the amount?
Though forty-seven may seem like an odd number, it was likely selected because if Donald Trump is re-elected he will be the forty-seventh President of the United States.
Who can sign the petition?
Only registered voters in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and North Carolina are eligible to sign the petition. Perhaps in the future the PAC leaders, including Musk believe they will be able to make the money back, by sending out fundraising e-mails to the list they are able to compile.
How will compensation be distributed?
If someone refers a signatory, they can provide the person’s cellphone number or e-mail, presumably to reward the referrer. The petition states clearly that a signer can only list one referrer and that the information will be verified before a payment is sent. However, there are no limits on the amount of money one can receive by referring their friends and family.
Additionally, though some may disagree with the aims of the super PAC, one could presumably sign up, refer a couple people and unsubscribe from any future notifications once they have received their payments.
