Elon Musk’s plan to block out the sun “to prevent global warming”
The 54-year-old has outlined his plans to prevent the earth from suffering global warming.
Elon Musk has publicly suggested a concept for reducing global warming through a form of solar geoengineering, though it’s not a formal, detailed plan.
His idea, shared on X (formerly Twitter), involves: A Large Solar-Powered AI Satellite Constellation: Deploying a vast network of satellites, presumably into Earth’s orbit.
Using this constellation to slightly control or reflect the amount of solar energy that reaches Earth. He suggested that only “tiny adjustments” would be needed to regulate the planet’s temperature.
This concept falls under the category of Solar Radiation Management (SRM), a highly speculative and controversial area of climate technology aimed at reflecting sunlight back into space to cool the Earth.
Musk’s proposed method of using an AI-controlled satellite constellation is a novel approach within the SRM field.
The idea is currently theoretical and has prompted significant discussion and questions from experts and the public regarding its practicality, environmental risks, and the ethical implications of allowing an AI system to control the planet’s climate.
