Heavy rain continues to cause damage in the United States. While Texas is facing a cold front, further southeast in the country, millions of residents in Florida have seen flood warnings issued due to a series of storms that will sweep across the state over the next few days.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the heavy rains are the result of “a broad area of low pressure over the eastern Gulf of Mexico [that] is producing a large area of disorganised showers and thunderstorms.” Despite the fact that the phenomenon is far from becoming a tropical disaster, authorities are warning of “tropical downpours” that will bring flooding to much of the state.

When will the flood warning end?

About six million people are currently affected by the various flood warnings. As things stand, experts say that southern part of the state is the area most at risk of torrential downpours.

Although the alert is in effect until Wednesday night, authorities are asking residents in the affected areas to stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service (NWS) as there is a high probability that these warnings will be extended through Friday, June 14.

The bulk of the heaviest rain will fall from Tuesday through Thursday night, says CNN.

Flood Warning in Florida: which areas are at risk for torrential rain?

“Double-digit rainfall totals are likely in parts of the state by Friday, but a few areas in southwest Florida could approach 20 inches of rain,” CNN adds.

As well as the wild weather in Florida, a cold front is headed for Texas.

So far, the hardest hit areas are Cape Coral, Naples, North Port, LaBelle. However, cities such as Sebring, St. Cloud, Cocoa and Palm Beach are also seeing considerable storms.

In the areas affected by the torrential storms, minimum temperatures of 78° F are expected, while the rest of the state may develop temperatures in the upper 80s.
