Update:

Earlier this month, the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued three recalls affecting vehicles the Ford Motor Company produced that cover over 150,000 cars.

A look at the three recalls

The first recall, which covered 77,584 units, was imposed after regulators found that Ford Transit vehicles produced in 2023-2024 had ‘Inadequate Rear Axle Lubrication.’ This issue could lead to one’s car rolling away if the parking brake is not engaged, and in cases where the wheel locks up, the vehicle can lose power. These issues “can increase the risk of a crash,” which prompted the recall. Owners of this model will be sent a letter by Ford around 4 March 2024. In the meantime, Ford’s customer service department stands ready to support those affected by the recall at 1-866-436-7332. The reference number for the recall is 24S05.

The second recall, posted on 9 February, covered two models: E-350 2021-2022 and E-450 2021-2022. Just over 16,000 cars were covered by the recall after it was uncovered the model was vulnerable to issues with the power steering line detaching or leaking. When this happens, there is a risk of losing the “power steering and brake assist, increasing the risk of a crash.” This is not the first recall these models have been subjected to, and the NHTSA stated that to remedy this issue, the owner will need to address the other case before technicians can address the power steering line. Letters describing the next steps will be sent around 25 March 2024. The reference number for the recall is 24S07, should one wish to speak with a representative from Ford in the meantime.

The last recall issued this month relates to the seatbelts of more than 77,000 Ford Expeditions (2018-2020) and Lincoln Navigators (2018-2020).

Drivers and passengers may find that the seatbelts lock up and are unable to be extracted. Notification letters will be sent in and around 4 March 2024, but it will not be until later in the year that owners of these vehicles are told to head to a Ford Autoshop as the company is still awaiting the parts needed to address the issue. For those looking to speak with Ford customer service, the reference number for this case is 24S06.
