Texas residents should brace themselves for the cold, as most of the state will face the first freezing temperatures of winter. Here are the affected areas.
Temperatures are expected to plummet for millions of Texas residents, particularly in the south, with a freeze warning remaining in effect through Wednesday night, Dec. 11.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasts temperatures to drop to the low to mid-30’s for most of the state, including North and Central Texas. Coastal areas are expected to experience slightly higher temperatures, remaining in the low 40s.

The National Weather Service has issued frost and freeze warnings in Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Madison, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, and Washington Counties in central Texas. These areas may see temperatures reaching lows of 30 degrees.
Meanwhile, Terrell, Chisos Basin, Presidio Valley and lower Brewster County may face below freezing temperatures of as low as 27 degrees.

The weather agency warns the extreme cold could cause property damage, possibly killing crops and other vegetation. The NWS also recommends that residents protect outdoor plumbing by covering faucets and draining water pipes to prevent them from freezing.
The weather is expected to warm slightly by Thursday evening, when temperatures are likely to climb above freezing levels.
