From Oreos to ravioli: America’s craziest deep-fried fair foods
It’s either your dream or your nightmare, but here’s a lick of America’s craziest fried foods.

When you think of America’s state fairs, you might picture corn dogs, funnel cakes, or a stack of deep-fried classics. But recently, these typical annual gatherings have pulled off something for a finer audience: frying things you never thought possible.
Ordinary sweets, vegetables, even traditional staples have been reimagined with a in oil. If you thought Scotland’s fried chocolate bar was weird, get your teeth into these crazy ideas...
Among the more family-friendly items are fried pickles, fried Oreos, and deep-fried sweet treats like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Then come the more adventurous creations: Pop Tarts are getting upgraded too, with strawberries and sugar all deep-fried in hot oil. And for those who love pasta, one fair stands out with deep-fried ravioli. Crispy carbs, not the healthiest mix.
Even traditional southern foods aren’t safe from transformation. Collard greens are also suffering from being battered and fried. Ribs are deep-fried until edges crisp and flavours become unrecognisable.
Candy and treats have also been elevated—or maybe degraded, depending on how you see it. Gummy bears, Cadbury Crème Eggs, and cookie-dough Oreos are all being dipped into hot oil. Even Spam—a name synonymous with cheap processed meat—gets a reinvention.
