Update:

Leaders in artificial intelligence development are warning that the technology could displace millions of jobs within the next five years.

In an interview with CNN, Dario Amodei—CEO of Anthropic and former Vice President of Research at OpenAI—told Anderson Cooper that AI could eliminate up to 50 percent of jobs and drive unemployment as high as 20 percent within one to five years. Amodei emphasized the risks of rapidly advancing AI, noting that it is “starting to get better than humans at almost all intellectual tasks.”

Still, some professions may be largely unaffected by the advent of artificial intelligence. A recent comprehensive study, which has yet to undergo peer review, analyzing hundreds of different occupations, found that roles such as housekeeping, dishwashing, and roofing are among the least likely to be impacted by AI technology. The researchers employed a novel methodology that involved analyzing interactions between users and Microsoft Bing Co-Pilot, examining over 200,000 anonymized conversations to determine the likelihood of each profession being affected by AI automation.
