The Google account

The Google email service (Gmail) is just one of many services that the technology giant offers along with photos, files, calendars which all link back to the main Google account.

If a user deletes their Google account, then they can no longer access services such as Google Pay, YouTube, Drive, Play Store and Google Meet.

However, users can delete their Gmail account without it impacting on other services offered by the technology giant.

Eight steps for deactivating Gmail

1) Go to your Google Account.
2) On the left, select Data & privacy.
3) Scroll to "Data from apps and services you use."
4) Select Delete a Google Service.
5) Next to "Gmail," select Delete  .
6) Enter an existing email address you want to sign in with.
7) Select Send verification email.
8) To verify your existing email address, you get an email at the existing email address. Until you verify the new email address, your Gmail address won't be deleted.

To delete a Gmail account without deleting your Google account, you need to provide a different email address associated with your Google account but upon deleting a Google account, the data associated with your Gmail account will be also be deleted.
