Update:

Ford is bidding farewell to a legend: after nearly three decades, the iconic Focus is being discontinued.

At Ford’s Saarlouis plant in Germany, this November marked the final chapter for the model, closing a 27-year run that helped define the compact car segment.

Why is this beloved car being retired?

It’s all part of Ford’s clear strategy: moving away from traditional compact cars and doubling down on SUVs, crossovers, and - most importantly - electric vehicles. In a world racing toward tech-driven mobility, Ford is steering into the future.

Profitability played a big role. The Focus simply wasn’t delivering the margins Ford needed compared to its new priorities. So, the company is redirecting resources toward next-generation platforms that promise growth and innovation.

This farewell also carries symbolic weight. With the Focus gone - and the Fiesta and Mondeo already discontinued - Ford is essentially closing the book on its classic hatchback lineup in Europe.

Still, Ford assures owners that service, parts, and support for the Focus will continue.

This isn’t just a goodbye for fans; it’s a statement of intent for the new Ford - bigger, electric, and far removed from the “traditional compact” era. The end of an era, and the start of something entirely different.
