Update:

James Evans' life took an unexpected turn when he found out he’d won the National Lottey’s Set for Life draw in December 2020. His numbers: 2, 4, 22, 37 and 45 came up as did the Life Ball 10 giving him a clean sweep.

For guessing all six numbers correctly, the 25-year-old takes home £10,000 ($12,400) every month - and will continue to do so until he is 51. Now he is fulfilling his great dream away from the routine of trying to guess which numbers will come up in the draw.

His life changed radically. He was aged just 21 when he heard he’d won - right in the middle of the Covid pandemic.

Now, four years on, he has given up his life as a landscape gardener to pursue his dreams, including becoming a ski instructor. He has also allowed himself some luxuries - most of them small treats and others, big investments: buying a car, a new computer, his first home complete with a jacuzzi.

The most “relaxed” lottery winner in history

James explains how he appeared to take the news in his stride but in reality, was in a state of shock.

“Apparently, I was the most chilled winner who had ever rung the National Lottery line but in truth I was in shock. It hadn’t sunk in,” he told The Mirror. After learning that he had won, Evans took care to help his loved ones and made charitable donations to various associations. “What has really changed me as a person is being able to do things for others,” he explained.

And to follow his dreams and look after those closest to him. “My family is massively important to me, so I’ve paid for my mum and dad to come skiing in Austria with me, helped my sister buy a new car and helped my brother start his own business. I also still help my dad out with the family landscaping business when he needs me, I will always put him first and will continue to do so until he retires.”

Lottery winner’s dreams of becoming a ski instructor

Thanks to his stroke of good fortune, James was also able to realize his dream of becoming a ski instructor. The money allowed him to pay for a training course, the necessary equipment and to start up his new business. “I love skiing and passed my level one exam to become a ski instructor last year, and I am now teaching at my local SnowDome,” he told the newspaper.

As for the future, he has a while yet to continue investing his monthly sums as they enter his bank account. And future dreams to fulfill.

My dream would be to take the full training course and teach abroad,” he before concluding: “It isn’t about the salary, it’s all about the experience for me and it really would be living the dream. Being a ski instructor was always my plan later in life but when I won Set For Life I thought, ‘Why not right now?”

Evans still has more than 300 months of monthly payments of £10,000 ahead of him. A dream come true
