Houston jewelry store launches gold hunt: where’s the hidden $10,000?
U.S. Coins & Jewelry is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and to kick off the milestone it’s organizing a treasure hunt for gold and rare coins.

U.S. Coins & Jewelry is operating a treasure hunt for a second time this year to coincide with National Coin Week to kick off a year of celebration for its fortieth anniversary. The Houston-area store founded in 1985 will be stashing over $10,000 worth of gold and rare coins across the region at five locally owned businesses.
“We wanted this year’s treasure hunt to reflect the communities that have supported us for four decades,” U.S. Coins & Jewelry co-owner Matthew Duncan said in a press release. “By expanding beyond the city limits, we’re giving more people across the Houston region a chance to join the fun and experience the excitement of the hunt.”
Four drops during National Coin Week
“Houston’s trusted destination for rare coins, gold and silver bullion, fine jewelry and sought-after sports memorabilia” is teaming up with Find the Cash Houston to hide rare vintage coins, gold and more during the weeklong treasure hunt. The first drop will be on Monday, 21 April. There will also be more drops on the 23rd, 25th and 26th this week.
Those who want to participate in the treasure hunt can find clues on social media at the Instagram accounts of @uscoinsandjewelry and @findthecashhouston. Those who find one of the treasure hunt prizes can either hold on to the piece of history or redeem the coin at U.S. Coins & Jewelry at its current market value.
There will also be daily giveaways at the store’s current 8435 Katy Freeway. Showroom as well as free coin collector kits for young numismatists on offer and exclusive deals on rare coins, historic currency and precious metals.
“Coin collecting is a timeless hobby—often called the ‘hobby of kings’. Our hope is that this treasure hunt sparks that same curiosity and wonder in kids, families and longtime collectors alike. It’s the perfect way to kick off a milestone year of celebration for U.S. Coins & Jewelry,” said U.S. Coins & Jewelry co-owner Kenny Duncan Jr. in a press release.
