The picture painted of the relationship between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is not a pretty one. From the testimony of both actors it is clear that it was seriously disfunctional, whoevers story they believe on the big stories coming out of the courtroom.

In a trial full of drama, perhaps none is as visceral as the one concerning Johnny Depp’s finger. Both parties have differing stories on the matter though both of them testified in court that theirs was true. This libel case for tens of millions of dollars is pretty ugly.

What was Johnny Depp’s version of events?

During his time giving his testimony, Depp elucidated on what happened to his finger. He said Heard was shouting at him during an argument about a postnuptial agreement.

She threw the bottle, and it made contact and shattered everywhere. I honestly didn’t feel the pain at first, at all. I felt heat, and I felt something were dripping down my hand, and then I looked down and realised the tip of my finger had been severed, and I was looking at my bone sticking out, and blood was just pouring out,” he told the court.

At the time it happened he said it was an accident with a door, so as not to “get [Ms Heard] in trouble”.

What did Amber Heard say happened?

Heard has a different story. She says the argument started after Depp was not happy about her working with Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl. She said Mr Depp struck her in a manner that “sent [her] down to the ground” before he broke a bottle and threatened to cut her before pinning her down amongst the broken glass.

“I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t get through to him, I couldn’t get up,” she said. “I don’t know how that ended. I don’t know how – I don’t know what happened next,” Heard continued, “The next thing I remember, I was bent over backwards on the bar, meaning my chest was up. I was staring at the blue light. My back is on the countertop and I thought he was punching me. I felt this pressure on my pubic bone. I thought he was punching me. I could feel his arm moving and it looked like he was punching me. But I could just feel this pressure.”

She awoke the next day to find Depp holding up his missing finger.

The trial continues.
